The Supreme Court of Pakistan has directed District Police Officer (DPO) Kasur to get registered an FIR against the persons who tortured one Rab Nawaz, and also directed him to produce the accused before the court on October 30.

The court passed these orders while holding suo motu proceedings initiated on the report of a national daily. The court also directed the DPO to make necessary arrangements for protection of Rab Nawaz.

According to the report, Rab Nawaz was home servant and involved with a girl working in the house of a federal secretary as maidservant. The residents of the area, on the behest of the secretary, badly tortured Rab Nawaz.

The court, taking suo motu notice on the news, has directed the DPO Kasur to produce Rab Nawaz.

The victim Rab Nawaz appeared before the court. Initially, he refused to inform the court about facts of the matter but afterwards he apprised the court about the whole matter when the court assured him necessary protection.

The court, after hearing Rab Nawaz, directed the DPO to register FIR against the responsible persons and produce them before the court on next date of hearing.

DIRECTIVE TO IG PRISONS The Chief justice of Pakistan has directed Inspector General Prisons Punjab to hold inquiry into the matter of evil practices being committed in Adyala jail, as were mentioned in a letter of a jail inmate Imran Saleem, and submit his report within a fortnight.

The court passed these orders while taking suo motu action on a letter sent by a jail inmate, Imran Saleem praying to the court to take action against responsible officials over illegal practices being committed in Adyala jail.

He contended that jail inmates were being provided liquor, apart from allowing gambling, sodomy with the boys and assault on women. He said that Superintendent jail was responsible for all these evils prevailing in the jail. He said that most of the officials were serving in the jail for the last over 15 years. He also prayed to the court to take action against the responsible officials. The Chief Justice, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry taking suo motu action on this letter called IG Prisons and Superintendent jail. Both the officials appeared before the court.

NOTICES ISSUED TO LAW OFFICERS The Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued notices to Attorney General of Pakistan and Advocate General of Pakistan for December 05, in a petition filed by a member of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA), praying to the court to direct the respondent to stop the illegal business of sale of human kidneys.

The petitioner, M.D. Tahir contended that poor people are selling their kidneys to meet their daily needs. He said that some doctors especially in Islamabad are also involved in this illegal business. He said that in Punjab thousands of people have sold out their kidneys due to poverty. The court directed the law officers to appear before the court along with details of steps by the government to curb this practice.
